I partnered with a small, family-run building contractor in the Pacific Northwest to design their brand identity. With a tight timeline and a clear need to boost their visibility in a competitive market, we delivered smart, impactful design solutions that helped sharpen their presence.
In our initial branding exploration phase (discovery session), we aligned around some descriptive words to describe their business: Balanced, Thoughtful, Seamless, Storied, Creative, Consistent.
I summarized that initial discovery session into five principles:
In our initial branding exploration phase (discovery session), we aligned around some descriptive words to describe their business: Balanced, Thoughtful, Seamless, Storied, Creative, Consistent.
I summarized that initial discovery session into five principles:
● Quality of craftmanship is paramount. It's the details that matter,
● Approachable. Nothing too fancy, formal, or corporate.
● Authentic. A unique, personal approach to every client and every build.
● Experienced & knowledgeable. This goes hand-in-hand with quality. Professional work doesn’t cut corners.
● Northwest-inspired. Pride in putting down roots here.
Next, I developed a handful of rough concepts (quick sketches converted to draft vector art).
Next, I developed a handful of rough concepts (quick sketches converted to draft vector art).
● Concept 1: At first glance: woodgrain, at second glance: fingerprint. Personalized and handcrafted.
● Concept 2: Inspired by a client conversation over lunch—a nail bisecting the letter R.
● Concept 3: Playing around with the hammer and nail concept some more and the idea of a stamp of quality/approval
● Concept 4: A one-of-a-kind wordmark that feels hand-crafted and intentional
● Concept 5: Two hammers resembling two letter “Rs” and placing them back-to-back to emphasize the alliteration of their business name
In addition to the concepts above, I also provided suggested color palettes to compliment the designs.
From there we locked on a singular concept and launched into our final phase: Delivery of logo assets for use on social and art files for business cards and letterhead.
I'm really pleased with the end result!
